The Senate Education Commission of Ibn Haldun University convened for a comprehensive meeting to review updates to course plans, evaluate new procedural guidelines, and discuss future academic planning aimed at enhancing the University's education and training processes.
Held on Tuesday, 18 November, in the Senate Hall of the Rectorate Building, the meeting included a thorough review of current practices, as well as evaluations and improvement discussions based on the feedback from YÖKAK and YÖK audit processes. Commission decisions were made regarding new semester courses, guidelines, and planning.
During the meeting, the Commission addressed:
The scheduling process for courses planned to open in the upcoming spring semester,
Requests from faculty members regarding updates to course content,
Coordination processes of application units,
Proposals aimed at improving educational environments.
Following the evaluations, the relevant units were provided with necessary directives, and follow-up processes were initiated.
The agenda also included discussions on recognizing and disseminating good practices within departments, strengthening and expanding sectoral collaborations, developing joint projects, and enhancing students’ professional competencies.
One of the significant topics discussed was the Council of Higher Education’s (YÖK) plan to introduce a three-year undergraduate education model in Turkish universities. Preparations for this model within Ibn Haldun University were evaluated.
Regarding long-standing 7+1 and 6+2 practicum models, departments that have already implemented these structures shared their experiences, while planning for departments that will transition to these models was discussed. The Commission also considered the steps required to ensure that, starting next year, all undergraduate programs adopt at least the 7+1 model.
In the context of graduate education, the Commission evaluated:
The alignment of thesis studies with sectoral needs and priorities,
The promotion of publication, project, and R&D-oriented activities,
The crediting of project-based work corresponding to learning outcomes in sectoral collaborations,
The processes enabling undergraduate students to take graduate-level courses and transition into integrated graduate programs.
A draft guideline aimed at increasing the effectiveness of graduate thesis processes was discussed and approved by the Commission. The decisions taken were submitted to the Rectorate to be presented to the Senate for implementation.
Ibn Haldun University remains committed to advancing the quality of its education and training processes through continuous improvement efforts.
